2013 May 8

Lake Forest College hosts its annual Leadership Awards ceremony every spring, where it recognizes outstanding student achievements.

Vasiliki Gerentes '14, of Northbrook, Illinois, received the Student Leader of the Year Award. Vicki has balanced her campus involvement with academic pursuits. As President of Delta Gamma and Vice President of Recruitment for Panhellenic Council, she has helped create community within our sororities. That desire to build community has also been illustrated in her work as a Forester Guide during New Student Orientation. In her academic pursuits, she has been published in Eukaryon and served as its copy editor and as the new editor in chief. She has also worked with LFC Press/&NOW designing several books, creating literacy festival posters and mentoring new leaders to take the reigns as she moves on. She writes about her leadership in academic organizations, "Leadership in the academic realm involves taking charge of what you wish to intellectually pursue. Just because you are at college does not mean you are claiming the education you are receiving. You have to act on what interests you."

Gerentes is a graduate of Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, Illinois.
